FAWE Rwanda through the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program is set to award comprehensive scholarships to 9 scholars transitioning from high school to tertiary level at the end of 2020. Part of the award includes provision of laptops to facilitate access and use of digital content.

In order to prepare the scholars in areas such as leadership skills, self-esteem and self-control vis-à-vis the new environment that scholars will be facing at tertiary level, FAWE Rwanda organized a workshop that brought the 9 scholars together to share their experiences and career aspirations. It was at this workshop that they were trained on basic entrepreneurship skills and crucial life skills that will serve them well beyond the classroom walls.

In addition to this, the scholars were trained on basic digital literacy including navigating the computer, using Microsoft office, email etiquette, online presence and browsing.

“Today, tertiary institutions are now requiring scholars to submit projects and assignments online, they are expected to have the technological know-how to be able to type up a document, research using a search engine, and send an email as well as being able to use the internet safely.” Said Ms. Antonia Mutoro, FAWE Rwanda National Coordinator.

Career counsellors from the University of Rwanda and Inews Ruhengeri present at the workshop supported the scholars in conducting a career assessment test in order to have a clear understanding of careers that they can pursue. The counsellors also shared admission requirements for courses and provided answers to questions asked by scholars.
