“I don’t know where I would have been by now if I hadn’t got a scholarship because I didn’t have a mum and I didn’t have a dad now, and surely there was no one to take care of me.” Lilian Nagawa is one of the young girls who has benefited from FAWE Uganda’s bursary programme. The programme supports disadvantaged girls through a full cycle of primary, secondary or tertiary education.
Am facing such a challenge where by am born in a family that never take girls as an advantage but a misfortune. I have lived in life of struggling am the only girl who has escaped marriage at the age of fifteen but my parents are never happy with me since they always tel me that the only responsibility of a girl is to get married and give bride price to the parents. In my struggle I have managed to complete my diploma in law but my dream is to be a lawyer and defend women and girls rights and always advocate for gender balance and proving my community that girls can also do something beyond getting married and giving birth. Only that now am stuck i don’t see any chance for getting my degree .
Thanks Grace for your comment. From which country are you writing to us?
I just finished an undergraduate program in a Nigerian university and would love to go further for an MSc but due to the state of the country’s education system, I will be needing assistance. I will appreciate the nomination of this forum for the Commonwealth scholarship taking girls to study in UK universities. Very thankful as I await response.
Hello Amicah, Thank you for reaching out to us. Unfortunately the nomination window for the scholarship opportunities closed on 30th October 2019. Kindly be on the look out for next year’s opportunity. We wish you the very best in your endeavors.
