MAPUTO – On a day the world directs its gaze to the promise and potential of every young woman, in Mozambique, they were not just looking—they were building. This International Day of the Girl was not merely commemorated with speeches; it was consecrated with action.

The FAWE Mozambique General Assembly unfolded as more than a procedural necessity; it was a pivotal moment of orchestration. The members, the musicians in this long-running symphony for girls’ education, gathered to refine their instruments and appoint new conductors. The air was not just filled with agenda items, but with the weight of reflection and the electric charge of renewal.

From the FAWE Africa Regional Secretariat, the presence of Ms. Teresa Omondi-Adeitan, Deputy Executive Director & Head of Programmes, and Mr. Kossi Tsenou, Senior Communications Officer, was a physical manifestation of the network’s interconnected strength—a reminder that the fight for a girl’s right to learn is a continental chorus, not a solo performance.

And then, the new architects of impact were unveiled. A board forged not just for administration, but for acceleration:

Idite Joaquim – Chairperson
Nércia Manjate – Vice Chairperson
Cecília Xavier – Secretary
Nelsa Lopes – Treasurer
Conceita Sortane, Márcia Cossa, Amina Issa – Members

This is not just a list of names. It is a blueprint for the future. The simultaneous establishment of a General Assembly Committee and a Finance and Audit Committee signals a profound commitment: that the integrity of the vessel is as crucial as the direction it sails.

This is how an organization recalibrates its moral compass. Not with fanfare, but with fiduciary responsibility and forward-thinking governance. The baton has been passed. The new ensemble is in place. And for the girls of Mozambique, the most impactful movements of this symphony are yet to be composed.
