FAWE Tanzania held its General Assembly at King Jada Hotel in Dar es Salaam, bringing together leaders, partners, and education advocates to strengthen chapter governance and foster regional collaboration. The event was marked by strategic reflections on institutional leadership and accountability, with a focus on advancing gender-responsive education in Tanzania and across the FAWE network.
In her address, Dr. Martha Muhwezi, Executive Director of FAWE Africa, emphasized the need for strong leadership that places girls and young women at the center of institutional growth and educational transformation. She was joined by other FAWE Africa representatives, including H.E. Prof. Sarah Anyang’ Agbor, Board Vice Chairperson; Prof. Hazel Miseda Mumbo, Board Treasurer; Ms. Teresa Omondi-Adeitan, Deputy Executive Director and Head of Programmes; Mr. Richard Chelagat, Director of Finance and Administration; and Programme Officer Mr. Martin Okhako.
A highlight of the Assembly was the election of a new board to serve from 2025 to 2028. Dr. Mona Ngusekela Mwakalinga, Dean of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Dar es Salaam, was elected Chairperson. A longstanding FAWE Tanzania member since 1998, Dr. Mona has twice served as Vice Chairperson and is one of the founding contributors to FAWE’s Tuseme model.

FAWE Africa congratulates the newly elected leadership and looks forward to their stewardship in taking the chapter to greater heights. The Assembly reaffirmed the shared commitment to equity, inclusion, and impactful leadership within the FAWE network.
