Dakar, November 13, 2025, FAWE Senegal celebrated a major milestone with the official launch of its 2024–2028 Strategic Plan and the FAWE/Mastercard Foundation Phase II Programme during a high-level event held at Magic Land, Dakar. The ceremony brought together government officials, education leaders, development partners, and young beneficiaries, reaffirming a shared commitment to advancing girls’ education and skills development in Senegal.
A Ceremony Marked by Engagement and National Pride
Guests were welcomed with vibrant performances from the Chœur Alegria as participants registered and explored interactive photo booths. The atmosphere grew even more symbolic with the arrival of the Guest of Honour, followed by the Senegalese national anthem and the FAWE anthem beautifully performed by students of Lycée Aminata Sow Fall, beneficiaries of FAWE’s IFFEFA project.
The highlight of the opening segment was the unveiling of FAWE Senegal’s new logo, followed by a group photo that captured the diversity and unity of all partners in attendance.
Presenting the Roadmap for Change: FAWE Senegal Strategic Plan 2024–2028
In her keynote presentation, Mme Mamouna Souaré Fofana, Acting Executive Director of FAWE Senegal, outlined the vision and priorities of the new 2024–2028 Strategic Plan. She emphasized FAWE Senegal’s renewed focus on:
• Strengthening gender-responsive pedagogy
• Expanding access to STEM and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) for girls
• Deepening partnerships with government, schools, and communities
• Enhancing monitoring, evaluation, and evidence-based advocacy
She also presented the core components of the Phase II FAWE–Mastercard Foundation Programme, designed to support girls and young women in acquiring the 21st-century skills needed to transition successfully into employment and entrepreneurship.
A High-Level Panel on STEM and TVET Opportunities
A dynamic panel deepened the conversation on how STEM and TVET can serve as powerful pathways for empowering girls and young women. Speakers included:
• Khady Diop, Inspector of Speciality
• Prof. Kebe, Director of ENSETP
• Dr. Aminata Ndour, Gender Focal Point & Evaluation Officer, ANAQ-Sup
• Kalkidan Demeke Abate, TVET trainee from FAWE Ethiopia
Moderated by Mr. Kossi Tsenou, Senior Communication Officer at FAWE Africa, the discussion highlighted the urgency of expanding female participation in technical fields and equipping young women with employable skills.
Strengthening Alliances for Impact
The ceremony featured several powerful statements underscoring the importance of collaborative leadership:
• Dr. Martha R. L. Muhwezi, Executive Director of FAWE Africa, reaffirmed FAWE’s continental commitment to advancing girl-centered education policies.
• Representatives of the Senegalese Government—including the Ministry of Employment and TVET and the Ministry of National Education—expressed strong support for the new programme, recognizing its transformative potential.
• Hon. Aïcha Bah Diallo, Chairperson of FAWE Africa, delivered an inspiring message calling for sustained investments in girls’ education as a national and continental priority.
• The Mastercard Foundation, represented by Mr. Ahmed Ndoye, praised FAWE Senegal for its leadership and reiterated the Foundation’s commitment to supporting youth employment in the WAEMU region.
• Me Fatou Kiné Diakhaté, Deputy Chief of Staff at the Presidency, delivered the Guest of Honour’s Address, acknowledging FAWE’s critical contribution to national development.
Official Launch and Commitment for the Future
The event concluded with the official launch of the Strategic Plan and Phase II Programme by representatives of the Presidency, the Ministry of Employment and TVET, and the Ministry of National Education. This unified endorsement demonstrates Senegal’s unwavering commitment to building an inclusive and equitable education ecosystem where girls and young women can thrive.
