Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health And Rights In Kenya And Uganda

The ‘Advocating for National Action: Projecting Adolescent Girls’ Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights in Kenya and Uganda’ project promotes the integration of Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (ASRH) in the school curriculum in Kenya and Uganda. The project seeks to assess the extent to which Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) has been integrated and/or implemented within the school curriculum and utilizes national and regional forums to advocate for the strengthening of CSE integration and implementation in Kenya and Uganda. This project marks Phase III of the FAWE/Packard Foundation partnership and is a follow-up project on ASRH but with a focus on advocacy.

Supported by the David and Lucile Packard Foundation to the tune of USD 400,000, this three-year project started in January 2017 is being implemented by FAWE Kenya and FAWE Uganda in their respective jurisdictions and it runs until December 2019.

The project seeks a policy revision in both Uganda and Kenya and implementation by the respective responsible ministries. Specifically, the project targets the schools and districts that registered success during the implementation of phase I and II.

Phase II of the ASRH project was implemented in Kenya and Uganda and reached a total of 26,580 in-school youth. It equally impacted on more than 28,800 community members around the targeted schools. The initiative led to successful adoption of ASRH and Child mothers’ re-entry policies in Kenya whilst the ASRH and Rights integration into school curricular is ongoing. In Uganda, the ASRH and Rights policy was adopted.
