In our ongoing commitment to advancing education and empowerment for girls across Africa, FAWE recently concluded a successful chapter visit in Bamako, Mali from the 3rd – 5th May 2024. This visit was particularly significant as it coincided with FAWE Mali’s General Assembly, culminating in the appointment of a dynamic new board. The newly constituted board comprises two FAWE Alumni and three advisors from key ministries, including the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Gender, and Ministry of Justice. Dr. Mariam M’Baraku Toure, the esteemed FAWE Mali Board Chairperson, will lead this diverse and dedicated team. The newly elected board consists of:

  • Dr. Mariam M’barakou TOURE – President FAWE-Mali
  • SISSOKO Mama TOUNKARA – Vice President FAWE-Mali
  • Moussa BA – Secretary General
  • TOGOLA Adja DIALLO – Treasurer
  • Issouffi A B TOURE – National Director of Basic Education (Representative of the Ministry of National Education)
  • Balla DIARRA – Head of Section DNPEF/Ministry for the Promotion of Women, Children and the Family
  • Laurence DOUYON – Representative of the Ministry of Justice
  • KONATE Kounandi KEITA – Member
  • Camara Ramata COULIBALY – Member
  • Diaba KEITA – President Alumni FAWE-Mali
  • Kia SISSOKO – FAWE-Mali Alumni

Led by FAWE’s Deputy Executive Director, Ms. Teresa Omondi-Adeitan, our regional secretariat delegation participated in the General Assembly alongside FAWE Mali’s leadership. The delegation included Ms. Fraciah Kagu, FAWE Advocacy and Partnerships Officer; Ms. Catherine Mwangi, Finance Officer; and Ms. Fatimata Kane, Programme Officer. The event not only marked a significant milestone in FAWE Mali’s governance journey but also served as a valuable learning opportunity for our team as we strive to #Educate2Elevate.

In addition to our engagement with FAWE Mali, our team had the honor of meeting with Dr. Amadou Savane, the Malian Minister of Education. During this courtesy visit, Dr. Savane commended FAWE for its tireless efforts in promoting girls’ education in Mali. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to continued partnership and collaboration with FAWE Mali, recognizing the pivotal role of education in transforming the lives of young girls and empowering future generations.

Furthermore, FAWE’s collaborative efforts extended to a productive meeting with Mr. Siaka Outtara, the Country Director of Save the Children Mali. Our team reiterated FAWE’s dedication to empowering African girls through education. The discussions underscored the shared commitment of FAWE and Save the Children to work together in advancing the rights and opportunities of girls across the continent. Through collaborative initiatives and partnerships, we remain steadfast in our mission to #Educate2Elevate and create a brighter future for all.
