The Forum for African Women Educationists (FAWE), condemns in the strongest term the killing of students in Nigeria, this is an act of cowardice by enemies of  education and progress disguising themselves as a student while carrying  a bomb in a school bag ; killing  innocent school going children during a general school assembly.

FAWE calls upon the government of Nigeria to do more and secure our schools. We can no longer watch as our children being killed and kidnapped as they go about securing a bright future through education.

FAWE calls for all hands-on deck to halt the emerging insecurity in schools that threatens the education of girls and boys in Africa. If not checked Africa risks sliding into the dark ages, where poverty, illiteracy ignorance and disease thrived. The gains Africa has made in education for all must be secured by all means.

FAWE acknowledges the efforts that are being put in place to secure the lives of boys and girls in schools. We call on the Government of Nigeria and other partners to adopt the FAWE Centre of Excellence model that uses a holistic approach to transforming the school learning environment to safe but gender-sensitive learning environments. The Government of Nigeria should do more and ensure that all schools are safe.

NO more attacks, kidnapping and killings of boys and girls in schools in Nigeria and elsewhere, Education is a Human Right!
