The FAWE Network wishes to congratulate Kaija Jacqueline who won the 2014 Africa Union Commission’s Africa Youth Day essay contest.
Jacqueline, who was a FAWE beneficiary from Uganda, competed against youth from all over Africa and managed to get the top prize. Her essay was about An Empowered Young Woman – the Beauty of Africa
Every year since 2006 the African Union Commission celebrates 1st November as the “African Youth Day”. This year, activities leading up to the event in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia included an essay contest involving young Africans. The essay was meant to identify and make a case for policy measures to support the empowerment of young women, in line with the Day’s theme: “Delivering on the Potential of Young Women”.
Many submissions were received by the African Union Commission from all over Africa, and the winning essay was written by Kaija Jacqueline, a Ugandan and a former FAWE beneficiary. She was awarded 1st place at the Day’s celebrations.
As mentioned above, Jacqueline is one of the girls that have been supported through secondary education by FAWE. Through FAWE’s intervention, she had the opportunity to have a quality education. She received various life skills and opportunities to serve different communities in Uganda, through FAWE’s various programs. A good example is the Science, Mathematics and Technical education programme that was aimed at helping the districts that were not performing well in the sciences subjects.
She is currently working as a Grants Analyst with Save the Children Uganda.
