In a significant step towards advancing girls’ education across Africa, the Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) Regional Secretariat and FAWE Kenya paid a courtesy call on Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Education, Hon. Julius Migos Ogamba, on 22 July 2026. The high-level meeting, held in Nairobi, was designed to strengthen institutional collaboration ahead of the 4th FAWE International Girls Conference, scheduled for 17–18 November 2026 in Kenya’s capital.

The FAWE delegation, led by Executive Director Dr. Martha Muhwezi and FAWE Kenya Chairperson Prof. Alice Odingo, formally extended an invitation to the Cabinet Secretary and the Ministry of Education to partner in co-hosting this landmark continental gathering. The conference is expected to bring together 17 Ministers of Education from across Africa, representatives from the African Union, the Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA), development partners, and other key stakeholders committed to advancing girls’ education and gender equality.

Discussions during the meeting focused on the Ministry’s pivotal role in welcoming high-level Pan-African delegates and its broader commitment to co-hosting an event that will serve as a platform for mobilizing bold ideas, sustainable financing, and innovative approaches to gender-transformative education systems. The delegation also included Dr. Lilian Kong’ani, CEO of FAWE Kenya; Gordon Aomo, Senior Knowledge Management Officer at FAWE Africa; and Lawrence Makana, Finance Manager at FAWE Kenya.

The Cabinet Secretary reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to strengthening its partnership with FAWE, emphasizing the importance of enhancing the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with FAWE Kenya. This enhanced collaboration aims to advance gender-transformative education policies and initiatives that improve access, participation, and learning outcomes for girls and young women across the country.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to stronger partnerships, bold action, and inclusive education systems that enable every girl to learn, thrive, and lead. It marks a significant milestone in FAWE’s ongoing efforts to build coalitions that translate advocacy into measurable impact, particularly as Africa prepares for a pivotal moment in its commitment to girls’ education at the upcoming conference.
