From 4 to 5 September 2026, a powerful narrative of resilience, renewal and reinvention unfolded across Togo. FAWE Africa, through its national chapter FAWE Togo, demonstrated the transformative power of education and skills development for vulnerable adolescent girls and young mothers. The engagements also marked a significant milestone in governance and leadership, as FAWE Togo convened its General Assembly to chart a bold new course for the future.
On 4 September, FAWE Togo, in partnership with Plan International, showcased the remarkable impact of its programme supporting teen mothers in Elavagnon, Atakpamé, Togo. The programme offered education, skills development and entrepreneurship support to hundreds of vulnerable adolescent girls and young mothers, giving them opportunities to rebuild their lives, develop livelihoods and pursue more secure futures.
The testimony of one beneficiary captured the profound transformation that the programme made possible: “When I was in Primary Six, I became pregnant and had to drop out of school. Sadly, the father of my child and my child both passed away. I had also been forced to leave school. FAWE identified me, together with other vulnerable teen mothers, and supported us to return to learning and acquire skills that can create opportunities for entrepreneurship. I am currently learning how to sew clothes.”

The engagement was part of FAWE Africa’s wider engagements in Togo and provided an invaluable opportunity to hear directly from programme participants about their experiences, achievements and aspirations. It was a powerful reminder that behind every statistic was a human story—a story of hardship overcome, of hope reclaimed, and of a future rebuilt through education and skills.
During the visit, FAWE was represented by Dr. Kékéli Jeannine Agounke, FAWE Africa Board Member and Founder of FAWE Togo; Ms. Tidjouguena Tébayéa Jeannette, Chairperson of FAWE Togo; and Ms. Teresa Omondi-Adeitan, Deputy Executive Director and Head of Programmes, FAWE Africa, alongside Ms. Emmerentienne da Silveira, FAWE Togo Focal Point for the Plateaux Region; Rose Atieno, Programme Officer, FAWE Africa; and Sodji Ahli Anselme, National Coordinator, FAWE Togo.
These engagements provided valuable insights into FAWE Togo’s work at community level, strengthened learning and knowledge exchange, and reinforced collaboration towards advancing education, skills development and protection for vulnerable girls and young women in Togo.

On 5 September, FAWE Togo held its General Assembly in Lomé, Togo, bringing members and partners together to reflect on the Chapter’s work and its next steps. The Assembly also marked the launch of FAWE Togo’s new Strategic Plan 2026–2028 to guide the organisation’s next steps, and the Chapter’s adoption of the new FAWE Chapter logo and branding guidelines.
FAWE Togo members conducted elections to choose their new leadership for the next three years. Ms. Tidjouguena Tébayéa Jeannette was re-elected as Chairperson. Ms. Tidjouguena was an experienced Togolese educationalist, school leader and advocate for girls’ education. Dr. Tchiou Solim was elected as the new Vice Chairperson. Ms. Kougonnou Akossiwa was elected Secretary General, Ms. Loglo Abla Donkor as Assistant Secretary General, Ms. Ballo Amélévi Pélagie as Treasurer, Ms. Dissou Amidétou as Assistant Treasurer, and Advisors Hon. Ms. Gbegbe Adjoa Nono, Ms. Kadjaloua Somié and Ms. Vessikpo Akoua were also elected.
The FAWE Africa delegation was led by Teresa Omondi-Adeitan, Deputy Executive Director and Head of Programmes, accompanied by Rose Atieno, Programme Officer. Their presence underscored FAWE Africa’s commitment to supporting its national chapters in strengthening governance, leadership and programme delivery.
The General Assembly represented a moment of renewal and recommitment. It was an opportunity for members and partners to reflect on past achievements, celebrate progress and set a clear direction for the future. The launch of the Strategic Plan 2026–2028 provided a roadmap for FAWE Togo’s work, while the adoption of new branding guidelines signalled a renewed identity and a strengthened commitment to visibility and impact.
As the engagements in Togo concluded, one message resonated clearly: when we invested in girls and young women, we invested in the future of families, communities and nations. FAWE Togo’s work stood as a testament to the power of second chances and the enduring promise of education to transform lives.
