From July 15 to 16, FAWE Mali took a significant step in nurturing a new generation of child rights advocates by holding a two-day training session for the network of children and young beneficiaries of Terre des Hommes Suisse. The workshop, focused on Communication and Advocacy, was designed to transform these young individuals from passive recipients of aid into proactive leaders capable of driving social change within their communities.

The first day of the training provided a crucial refresher on the state of children’s rights in Mali, grounding the young leaders in the realities and challenges they face daily. This session established a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities, shifting their perspective to that of key players in the fight for child protection. Following this foundational knowledge, the participants delved into the art and science of advocacy, learning how to effectively influence decision-makers and mobilize their communities.

Building on this groundwork, the second day pivoted to the practical skills needed in the digital age. The training focused on Communication, specifically exploring the potential and pitfalls of social media. Young leaders were equipped with the fundamentals of web activism and responsible communication, learning to use platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram safely and effectively to amplify their message.

This emphasis on digital advocacy is a strategic move by FAWE Mali. In an increasingly connected world, the ability to communicate effectively online is vital for raising awareness and building momentum for social causes. The training covered how to craft compelling messages, engage with audiences, and use social media to mobilize support for children’s rights, all while maintaining a responsible and ethical online presence.

By the end of the two days, the young participants were fully empowered to act as champions for the rights and well-being of children in Mali. The training provided them not just with knowledge, but with a clear vision of their potential as agents of change. They are now better prepared to conduct sensitization campaigns, influence local and national policies, and engage their peers in advocacy efforts, using both traditional and digital tools to create a tangible impact.
