FAWE Gambia: Advancing Partnership with the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education

In The Gambia, FAWE Gambia demonstrated this approach through a high-level courtesy visit to the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.

The delegation—comprising the FAWE Gambia Director, Senior Programme Officer, Board Chairperson, President of the Alumni, and FAWE Africa Board Representative Madam Oley Dibba—paid a visit to congratulate Dr. Habibatou Drammeh on her appointment as Minister. The visit also provided an opportunity to officially introduce the FAWE Africa Board Representative and share updates on FAWE Gambia’s ongoing programmes and achievements.

The Minister warmly welcomed the delegation, commending FAWE Gambia for its long-standing contribution to advancing education for women and girls. She underscored the importance of sustaining mentorship initiatives and emphasized the inclusion of boys in programming—highlighting a shared commitment to inclusive and gender-transformative education

The engagement resulted in several key outcomes that further strengthen FAWE’s institutional positioning in the country:

✔️ Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize collaboration
✔️ Submission of a proposal to enhance strategic partnership with the Ministry
✔️ Review of government subvention to support programme implementation
✔️ Secondment of two staff members to reinforce FAWE Gambia’s operational capacity

The delegation also extended invitations to key upcoming milestones, including the FAWE Gambia General Assembly in June and the FAWE Africa General Assembly and Girls’ Conference scheduled for November.

This engagement in The Gambia is part of a broader effort across the FAWE network to strengthen institutional anchoring at national level. By building trusted partnerships, influencing policy dialogue, and aligning with government priorities, FAWE continues to drive sustainable, system-level impact.

As the organization deepens its presence across Africa, its approach remains clear: working hand in hand with governments and stakeholders to ensure that every girl—and increasingly every learner—has access to quality, inclusive, and empowering education.
