Empowering Learners Through Mentorship, Financial Literacy, and Strategic Partnerships

As part of the ongoing 30 Days @ 30 celebration, marking three decades of advancing girls’ education and empowerment, FAWE Zambia (FAWEZA) reaffirmed its commitment to holistic learner development through a meaningful mentorship and financial literacy engagement at Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe Primary School. This milestone activity, held under Day 15 of the campaign, brought together learners, educators, and valued partners in a shared effort to equip young people with knowledge, confidence, and life skills essential for their future success.

The session was enriched by the participation of FAWEZA’s partner, ZSIC Life Insurance, whose contribution highlighted the importance of financial awareness as a critical component of learner empowerment. As a leading provider of insurance and financial protection solutions in Zambia, ZSIC Life Insurance plays a vital role in supporting individuals and families to manage risks, plan ahead, and build financial resilience. Their involvement in the session provided learners with foundational knowledge on financial literacy, helping them understand the value of saving, planning, and making informed decisions from an early age.

Beyond financial education, the mentorship session created a supportive platform for learners to reflect on the importance of education as a pathway to opportunity and personal growth. Through open discussions and interactive dialogue, learners were encouraged to set goals, remain committed to their studies, and recognise their potential to shape their futures and contribute positively to their communities.

This engagement reflects FAWEZA’s broader approach to education—one that goes beyond academic achievement to support the social, emotional, and practical development of learners. Mentorship and life-skills education play a critical role in strengthening learners’ confidence, resilience, and decision-making abilities, ensuring that they are well equipped to navigate challenges and pursue their aspirations.

In support of girls’ wellbeing and continued participation in education, FAWEZA also distributed sanitary pads donated through its partnership with Angel’s Care Women and Girls. Access to menstrual hygiene products is essential in promoting dignity, confidence, and uninterrupted learning for girls. This gesture reflects FAWEZA’s commitment to addressing barriers that can affect girls’ school attendance and retention, ensuring that every girl can learn in a safe and supportive environment.

The Day 15 engagement stands as a powerful example of how partnerships can strengthen impact and expand opportunities for learners. By working alongside organisations such as ZSIC Life Insurance and Angel’s Care Women and Girls, FAWEZA continues to create supportive ecosystems that nurture learners’ potential and promote inclusive education.

As FAWE celebrates 30 years of advancing gender equality in education, activities such as this mentorship session highlight the enduring importance of collaboration, community engagement, and learner-centred approaches. Through sustained partnerships and holistic programming, FAWE remains committed to empowering learners with the knowledge, skills, and support they need to thrive—both in school and beyond.
