On 8 March 2019 during the International Women’s Day, UNESCO launched the call for nominations for the 2019 UNESCO Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education.

The UNESCO Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education rewards outstanding practices of individuals, institutions, other entities or non-governmental organizations advancing girls’ and women’s education. The Prize was established by the Executive Board of UNESCO at its 197th session, and launched in 2016 with generous support by the government of the People’s Republic of China. The Prize contributes to two Sustainable Development Goals: “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all” (Goal 4) and “Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls” (Goal 5).

Funded by the Government of the People’s Republic of China, the Prize annually awards US$ 50,000 to two outstanding laureates to help further their work.

Interested candidates meeting the selection criteria are invited to contact their National Commissions for UNESCO or NGOs in official partnership with UNESCO to participate. The nomination process takes place via an online platform, accessible to UNESCO Member States and NGOs in official partnership with UNESCO. It can also be opened up to nominees at the request of one of these bodies.

Deadline to submit nominations is 28 May 2019 (midnight, Paris time).
