Empowering Innovators of Tomorrow: FAWE Ethiopia Strengthens TVET Learning Through Technology Support

FAWE Ethiopia continues to advance its commitment to empowering young people through equitable access to education and technology. On February 20, 2026, as part of the FAWE/Mastercard Foundation Phase II Programme, FAWE Ethiopia distributed high-end laptop computers to Cohort 2 programme participants from General Wingate Polytechnic College and Addis Ababa Tegbareid Polytechnic College. The distribution ceremony, held at Addis Ababa Tegbareid Polytechnic College Hall, marked an important milestone in strengthening learners’ access to digital tools essential for success in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), STEM fields, and innovation-driven careers.

The event brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including parents and guardians, representatives from the Addis Ababa Bureau of Women, Children and Social Affairs, the Addis Ababa City Administration Labor and Skill Bureau, and the Bureau of Finance. Academic leadership from partner TVET institutions—including deans and vice deans—also participated, demonstrating strong institutional support for the programme and its beneficiaries.

Bridging the Digital Divide to Unlock Potential

Access to digital technology is increasingly essential for learners pursuing technical and vocational training. By providing laptops to programme participants, FAWE Ethiopia is addressing one of the key barriers to learning—limited access to digital resources—and ensuring that students are equipped with the tools needed to fully engage in their studies.

For many beneficiaries, the laptops represent more than just a learning resource; they symbolise opportunity, independence, and the ability to compete and innovate in an increasingly digital world. These tools will enable learners to conduct research, complete assignments, develop technical skills, and participate more actively in practical and project-based learning.

This investment reflects FAWE’s recognition that access to technology plays a critical role in empowering young people—especially girls and young women—to succeed in STEM and TVET pathways, sectors that are essential to economic development and innovation.

Strengthening Partnerships for Sustainable Impact

The presence of government representatives, education leaders, and families at the distribution ceremony highlighted the collective effort required to support learners’ success. Parents and guardians expressed pride and encouragement, recognising the transformative potential of education and digital empowerment in shaping their children’s futures.

The FAWE/Mastercard Foundation Phase II Programme continues to play a vital role in expanding access to education and skills development opportunities for young people facing barriers. By providing scholarships, mentorship, and learning resources, the programme supports learners to remain in school, develop employable skills, and transition successfully into meaningful careers.

Investing in the Next Generation of Leaders and Innovators

FAWE Ethiopia’s work reflects a broader commitment to promoting gender-responsive education and ensuring equal opportunities for all learners. By equipping students with digital tools and supporting their academic journeys, FAWE is helping to nurture a new generation of innovators, professionals, and changemakers.

Through strategic partnerships and targeted interventions, FAWE Ethiopia continues to strengthen pathways for girls and youth to pursue education in STEM and TVET fields—empowering them not only to succeed academically but also to contribute to their communities and national development.

This milestone reinforces FAWE’s vision of an Africa where every girl and young person has access to quality education, the tools to succeed, and the opportunity to shape their future with confidence and purpose.
