Charg\u00e9e de communication, FAWE <\/strong><\/p>\n

Voici Jennifer Sakiya, 29 ans, une jeune femme d\u00e9termin\u00e9e de la r\u00e9gion de l'Upper East au Ghana et fi\u00e8re laur\u00e9ate de la prestigieuse bourse du Commonwealth. Elle rejoindra l'universit\u00e9 de Glasgow pour y suivre un master en sant\u00e9 publique. Son parcours dans le domaine de la sant\u00e9 publique, et plus particuli\u00e8rement de l'\u00e9pid\u00e9miologie, a \u00e9t\u00e9 inspir\u00e9 par la n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 de comprendre les causes des maladies et de les pr\u00e9venir avant qu'elles ne fassent des victimes.<\/p>\n

\u201cSi l'on peut identifier la source, on peut prot\u00e9ger les communaut\u00e9s\u201d.\u201d <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

dit-elle souvent, un principe directeur qui fa\u00e7onne sa vision de l'avenir.<\/p>\n

Pour Jennifer, l'\u00e9ducation ne s'est pas faite sans difficult\u00e9s. Les difficult\u00e9s financi\u00e8res ont \u00e9t\u00e9 un obstacle r\u00e9current, les frais impay\u00e9s mena\u00e7ant parfois de faire d\u00e9railler ses progr\u00e8s. Mais la r\u00e9silience lui a permis d'aller de l'avant. \u201cIl faut \u00eatre d\u00e9termin\u00e9\u201d, dit-elle, \u201ccar sans pers\u00e9v\u00e9rance, on n'atteint pas ses r\u00eaves\u201d.\u201d<\/p>\n

La bourse du Commonwealth, explique-t-elle, n'est pas seulement pour elle, c'est une chance d'inspirer d'autres filles. De nombreuses jeunes femmes de sa communaut\u00e9 ne savent m\u00eame pas que de telles opportunit\u00e9s existent. Jennifer esp\u00e8re que sa propre histoire leur montrera que des bourses comme celle-ci sont \u00e0 leur port\u00e9e.<\/p>\n

\u201cSi je peux le faire, ils le peuvent aussi\u201d.\u201d <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

dit-elle, soulignant son engagement dans le mentorat et la sensibilisation des filles qui, autrement, pourraient abandonner apr\u00e8s un seul refus.<\/p>\n

\u201cJ'ai une amie qui s'appelle Alice et qui m'a fait d\u00e9couvrir la bourse du Commonwealth. Elle m'a encourag\u00e9e \u00e0 poser ma candidature, m\u00eame si j'\u00e9tais sceptique, car j'avais d\u00e9j\u00e0 pos\u00e9 ma candidature \u00e0 de nombreuses bourses d'\u00e9tudes et je n'avais pas \u00e9t\u00e9 retenue. Cette fois-ci, c'\u00e9tait diff\u00e9rent ; j'ai \u00e9t\u00e9 nomin\u00e9e par l'antenne ghan\u00e9enne du FAWE, et le reste appartient \u00e0 l'histoire\u201d. Elle ajoute. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Ses projets sont profond\u00e9ment ancr\u00e9s dans la volont\u00e9 de rendre la pareille. Apr\u00e8s ses \u00e9tudes, Jennifer pr\u00e9voit de rentrer chez elle pour servir les communaut\u00e9s touch\u00e9es par l'exploitation mini\u00e8re ill\u00e9gale, o\u00f9 les jeunes n'ont souvent pas conscience des dangers du mercure, du cyanure et de l'exposition \u00e0 la poussi\u00e8re. Elle r\u00eave de dispenser des cours, de faire des examens de sant\u00e9 gratuits et de d\u00e9fendre les int\u00e9r\u00eats des populations vuln\u00e9rables. Elle esp\u00e8re ensuite se sp\u00e9cialiser davantage en obtenant un doctorat en \u00e9pid\u00e9miologie et travailler \u00e9ventuellement avec des institutions mondiales telles que le CDC ou l'OMS, afin d'\u00e9tendre son impact \u00e0 l'Afrique et au-del\u00e0.<\/p>\n

Mais l'histoire de Jennifer n'est pas faite que d'\u00e9tudes et de plaidoyer. Elle a un c\u00f4t\u00e9 ludique et aventureux. Elle aime les randonn\u00e9es, la nature et l'exploration des cascades, des rivi\u00e8res et des for\u00eats. Elle aime dessiner, peindre et \u00e9couter de la musique, en particulier du gospel et du Rhythm and Blues (R&B). Elle est \u00e9galement multilingue, parlant couramment plusieurs langues ghan\u00e9ennes en plus de l'anglais. Et bien qu'elle n'ait pas de plat pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9, elle dit en riant qu'elle appr\u00e9cie les repas en fonction de son humeur.<\/p>\n

Lorsqu'on lui demande quelles sont les femmes qui l'inspirent, Jennifer s'illumine en parlant de l'actuelle vice-pr\u00e9sidente du Ghana, le professeur Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang. Elle admire son intelligence, sa r\u00e9silience et le courage qu'il faut pour assumer un r\u00f4le aussi difficile.<\/p>\n

\u201cElle est intelligente, forte et d\u00e9vou\u00e9e \u00e0 la cause des filles. J'aimerais la rencontrer un jour et la remercier pour tout ce qu'elle fait pour le Ghana.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Le message de Jennifer aux jeunes filles d'Afrique est clair : ne jamais abandonner. Elle a postul\u00e9 pour de nombreuses bourses d'\u00e9tudes, essuyant parfois des refus, mais elle ne s'est jamais laiss\u00e9e arr\u00eater.<\/p>\n

\u201cIl y a toujours une premi\u00e8re fois pour tout. Il faut \u00eatre r\u00e9sistant, car c'est avec de la pers\u00e9v\u00e9rance que l'on obtient ce que l'on veut\u201d.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n
