Margaret, 22 ans, originaire du Kenya, en voit chaque jour les cons\u00e9quences dans son environnement. C'est pourquoi, en tant que jeune activiste, elle s'engage pour les droits des filles. Surtout lorsqu'il s'agit de leur sant\u00e9 sexuelle et de leur droit \u00e0 prendre leurs propres d\u00e9cisions concernant leur corps, leurs relations et leur vie.<\/p>\n<p>Selon Margaret, la sant\u00e9 et les droits sexuels et g\u00e9n\u00e9siques ne sont pas une priorit\u00e9 au Kenya. \u201cIls ne sont pas pris au s\u00e9rieux. Si vous venez dans un centre de sant\u00e9 en tant que jeune femme et que vous demandez une contraception, vous \u00eates critiqu\u00e9e. Les agents de sant\u00e9 vous condamnent pour cela. En outre, les soins de sant\u00e9 sexuelle et g\u00e9n\u00e9sique sont tr\u00e8s co\u00fbteux. De nombreuses jeunes femmes, en particulier dans les zones rurales, ne peuvent pas se permettre ces soins.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Droits de l'homme<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Il y a \u00e9galement beaucoup \u00e0 gagner en termes de droits. Par exemple, s'il existe au Kenya des lois qui prot\u00e8gent les filles des violences sexuelles, leur application laisse souvent \u00e0 d\u00e9sirer. \u201cSi une fille est viol\u00e9e, l'affaire est souvent port\u00e9e devant les tribunaux. Mais il y a beaucoup de corruption. Les auteurs de viols soudoient les juges et sont donc souvent lib\u00e9r\u00e9s. Pour les filles, la situation reste donc tr\u00e8s dangereuse. De plus, elles sont bl\u00e2m\u00e9es pour ce qui s'est pass\u00e9 et sont alors m\u00e9pris\u00e9es par leurs amis et leur famille. Surtout si les auteurs des violences sont eux-m\u00eames des membres de la famille, ce qui arrive malheureusement tr\u00e8s souvent\u201d.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sur la barricade<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>C'est aussi parce qu'elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 si souvent confront\u00e9e \u00e0 cette situation dans son environnement que Margaret a d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de monter aux barricades et de s'exprimer en tant que jeune activiste pour les droits des jeunes, et en particulier des filles. \u201cDans notre syst\u00e8me juridique, il y a une grande in\u00e9galit\u00e9\u201d, dit-elle. \u201cLes jeunes qui d\u00e9passent les bornes sont s\u00e9v\u00e8rement punis, mais lorsqu'il s'agit d'un crime grave, comme un viol, l'affaire est \u00e9touff\u00e9e. Et quand on est riche, on peut acheter beaucoup de choses\u201d.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>La diff\u00e9rence est particuli\u00e8rement sensible dans les zones rurales, explique Margaret, qui cite en exemple une loi r\u00e9cente. \u201cLe gouvernement a d\u00e9cid\u00e9 que tous les frais de scolarit\u00e9 devaient \u00eatre pay\u00e9s par l'interm\u00e9diaire d'une plateforme en ligne. En soi, ce n'est pas mauvais, mais cela ne tient pas compte du fait que de nombreuses personnes dans les zones rurales n'ont pas l'argent n\u00e9cessaire pour acheter un smartphone. Ils ont souvent pay\u00e9 l'\u00e9cole avec des produits comme le ma\u00efs ou le bois de chauffage. Si ce n'est plus possible, ils ne peuvent pas envoyer leurs filles \u00e0 l'\u00e9cole. Cet aspect n'est pas pris en compte.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>De belles r\u00e9ussites<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Bien qu'il reste encore beaucoup de chemin \u00e0 parcourir, Margaret a d\u00e9j\u00e0 remport\u00e9 de grands succ\u00e8s en tant que jeune activiste. \u201cJ'ai cr\u00e9\u00e9 ma propre organisation, Her Dignity Her Pride, \u00e0 travers laquelle je travaille pour mettre fin au mariage des enfants, aux mutilations g\u00e9nitales f\u00e9minines, aux grossesses d'adolescentes et aux abus sexuels \u00e0 Kajiado. Dans ce cadre, nous incluons \u00e9galement le leadership et le lobbying. Beaucoup de filles et de femmes ne connaissent pas leurs droits, il est donc important de leur en parler. Par exemple, nous leur donnons une \u00e9ducation sexuelle et leur apprenons \u00e0 se prot\u00e9ger des grossesses et des maladies sexuellement transmissibles. Par ailleurs, bon nombre de ces zones rurales sont gravement touch\u00e9es par le changement climatique. La pauvret\u00e9 qui en r\u00e9sulte entra\u00eene souvent une augmentation du nombre de mariages d'enfants. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la dot que les parents et les soignants re\u00e7oivent pour leurs jeunes filles, ils peuvent renvoyer leurs fils \u00e0 l'\u00e9cole. C'est pourquoi nous nous engageons \u00e9galement \u00e0 rendre les femmes plus ind\u00e9pendantes financi\u00e8rement afin qu'elles puissent gagner leur propre argent, m\u00eame lorsque le changement climatique menace l'agriculture et l'\u00e9levage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Soutien du Pr\u00e9sident<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Elle a \u00e9galement contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 l'\u00e9laboration d'un manifeste de la jeunesse qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 au pr\u00e9sident du Kenya. Avec succ\u00e8s. \u201cLe pr\u00e9sident a repris soixante-dix pour cent de nos id\u00e9es dans son propre manifeste. S'il tient parole, la plupart de nos objectifs seront atteints.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Margaret participe au programme Break Free ! dont le FAWE est membre du consortium en tant que jeune activiste. \u201cLe programme me donne l'occasion de travailler avec d'autres jeunes militants de toute l'Afrique et de faire conna\u00eetre nos id\u00e9es. C'est un endroit s\u00fbr o\u00f9 les jeunes peuvent exprimer leurs pr\u00e9occupations concernant leur sant\u00e9 et leurs droits sexuels. Leurs exp\u00e9riences m'inspirent pour monter \u00e0 nouveau sur sc\u00e8ne et continuer \u00e0 faire pression pour une meilleure l\u00e9gislation au Kenya. En fin de compte, je veux que les jeunes soient toujours pr\u00e9sents \u00e0 la table des n\u00e9gociations et qu'ils aient leur mot \u00e0 dire dans les d\u00e9cisions importantes. Pour que les d\u00e9cideurs voient r\u00e9ellement l'\u00eatre humain derri\u00e8re le probl\u00e8me\u201d.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Le genre est \u00e0 l'ordre du jour<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Du 13 au 15 f\u00e9vrier, Margaret participe au pr\u00e9-sommet \"Gender Is My Agenda\" (GIMAC) \u00e0 Addis-Abeba, en \u00c9thiopie. C'est l\u00e0 que des femmes de divers pays africains et leurs alli\u00e9s se r\u00e9unissent pour d\u00e9fendre leurs droits et faire entendre la voix des filles et des femmes. Margaret anime une session sur l'importance de l'\u00e9ducation au cours d'une s\u00e9ance de lobbying. Cette session permettra de recueillir les principales recommandations des jeunes en mati\u00e8re d'\u00e9ducation, qui seront ensuite pr\u00e9sent\u00e9es au sommet de l'Union africaine les 17 et 18 f\u00e9vrier.<\/p>\n<p><em>Break Free ! est un programme quinquennal (2021-2025) de Plan International, SRHR Africa Trust (SAT) et Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) et en partenariat strat\u00e9gique avec le minist\u00e8re des Affaires \u00e9trang\u00e8res. Nous travaillons \u00e9galement en \u00e9troite collaboration avec le Rozaria Memorial Trust et le KIT Royal Tropical Institute. Avec les jeunes et les organisations de jeunesse locales, nous nous engageons \u00e0 pr\u00e9venir les mariages d'enfants et les grossesses d'adolescentes, ainsi qu'\u00e0 promouvoir la sant\u00e9 et les droits sexuels et g\u00e9n\u00e9siques des jeunes.
