The Prize was established by the Executive Board of UNESCO at its 197<sup>th<\/sup> session, and launched in 2016 with generous support by the government of the People\u2019s Republic of China. The Prize contributes to two Sustainable Development Goals: \u201cEnsure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all\u201d (Goal 4) and \u201cAchieve gender equality and empower all women and girls\u201d (Goal 5).<\/p>\n<p>Funded by the Government of the People\u2019s Republic of China, the Prize annually awards <strong>US$ 50,000<\/strong> to two outstanding laureates to help further their work.<\/p>\n<p>Interested candidates meeting the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.unesco.org\/sites\/default\/files\/gwe_prize_explanatory_note.pdf#page=2\">selection criteria<\/a> are invited to contact their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unesco.org\/ncp\/index.php??lc=E&amp;module=national_commissions&amp;showall=1\">National Commissions for UNESCO<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/en.unesco.org\/partnerships\/non-governmental-organizations\/list\">NGOs in official partnership<\/a> with UNESCO to participate. The <a href=\"https:\/\/en.unesco.org\/themes\/women-s-and-girls-education\/prize\/nomination\/process\">nomination process<\/a> takes place via an <a href=\"http:\/\/unesco.org\/gwe\">online platform<\/a>, accessible to UNESCO Member States and NGOs in official partnership with UNESCO.
