When the strategic plan for 2013-2017 lapsed in December 2017, the FAWE Regional Secretariat embarked on the process of developing a new strategy to guide the organization\u2019s operations for the next five years. The process commenced in March 2018 after approval by the FAWE Africa board with the identification of a team of consultants to guide the process. The competitive selection saw Centre for Research & Innovation East Africa (CRI-EA) selected to guide the process.<\/p>\n

An evaluation of the previous Strategic Plan 2013-2017 was carried out. The evaluation process consolidated the key achievements, lessons learnt, best practices, challenges, gaps and strategic issues and this sought to reorient FAWE to her vision and mission in the contextof the current regional and global education agenda.<\/p>\n

A Visioning Workshop was held in August 2018 with National Chapters, Board members and key partners was held to critically review the findings of the previous SP evaluation, make reflections on FAWE\u2019s past performance, examine the current global education agenda and map out strategies and approaches for the FAWE\u2019s next course of action over the next 5 years. The workshop generated consensus giving rise to an initial draft of the new Sstrategic Plan 2019-2023.<\/p>\n

A Validation Workshop in October 2018 jointly reviewed the draft strategy and mapped out strategies and approaches for its implementation. Key stakeholders and members present gave feedback on the draft for and these were integrated into the final draft of the strategic plan. According to the strategy, FAWE will over the next five years be guided by its goal of \u2018empowering girls and women in Africa with skills, values & competencies they need to achieve their potential\u2019. FAWE will adopt a development approach that mitigates both the cause and effect of girls\u2019 and women\u2019s education, promotes the rights and welfare of girls and women and empowers them to be self-reliant.<\/p>\n

The FAWE Strategic Plan 2019-2023 was approved during the 60th FAWE Africa Board meeting held in March 2019 and will be officially launched in June 2019.<\/p>\n

Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Chairperson, FAWE Africa called upon, \u201c\u2026diverse partners such as the governments of countries where FAWE operates, previous, current and potential funding partners as well as our research centers, universities and the private sector are urged to join FAWE in this five-year journey of the Strategic Plan 2019-2023.\u201d<\/p>\n
