In June 2025, the FAWE Regional Secretariat, led by Deputy Executive Director and Head of Programmes Ms. Teresa Omondi-Adeitan, concluded a multi-day mission in Uganda that highlighted the organization\u2019s deepening impact in both refugee and host communities. The mission was hosted by FAWE Uganda and centered around key programme engagements, district-level advocacy, and the commemoration of World Refugee Day.<\/p>\n
The visit began with a courtesy call to the FAWE Uganda office, where teams reflected on the implementation of major initiatives including GPE KIX Tuseme, the SHARE project, and the FAWE\/Mastercard Foundation Phase II Program. FAWE Uganda was commended for its outstanding leadership in advancing gender-responsive education across the country.<\/p>\n
In Adjumani District, the team met with local government leaders and school communities to discuss the relevance of FAWE\u2019s work in refugee-hosting areas. During a validation workshop for the GPE KIX Tuseme Phase II study, stakeholders including district administrators and education officials discussed the need to strengthen the model to better serve displaced and vulnerable learners. School visits, such as to Biyaya Secondary School, showcased the practical impact of SHARE Clubs, with students leading innovative solutions like reusable sanitary pads to reduce dropout rates.<\/p>\n
The team also engaged the Office of the Prime Minister, highlighting concerns around dwindling education funding for refugee schools and the urgent need for sustainable, multi-stakeholder solutions.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, in Rwamwanja refugee settlement, FAWE joined national partners and local leaders to celebrate World Refugee Day. The event, held in collaboration with UNHCR, Uganda Red Cross, and the Office of the Prime Minister, spotlighted the power of education in restoring hope and opportunity for displaced learners.<\/p>\n
The mission ended with a visit to Ntenungi Secondary School, where the team met Kembabazi Talent, a Mastercard Foundation scholar turned educator. Her inspiring story of transformation and mentorship embodies the long-term impact of FAWE\u2019s work in creating empowered, community-rooted leaders.<\/p>\n
