Imarisha Msichana programme<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Imarisha Msichana is a two-year program in partnership with Mastercard Foundation to address teen pregnancy and advocate for the re-entry of girls back to school during and after COVID-19 19. The programme started on 1st September 2022 and has an end date of 28th February 2025. It was necessitated by a surge in teen pregnancy during the Covid pandemic, which saw 15% of girls aged 15-19 years get Pregnant. It\u2019s implemented in 20 counties in Kenya<\/span> with a focus on re-entering 5000 teen mothers back to school whilst influencing policies that support girls. The counties include Nakuru, Nairobi, Machakos, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Kiambu, Garissa, Bungoma, Kakamega, Nyeri, Migori, Murang\u2019a, Kajiado, Narok, Homabay, Trans-Nzoia, Nyandarua, Busia, Meru, Siaya, and Turkana.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The success of the programmes is majorly credited to the major partners, including The Mastercard Foundation, <\/span>Centre for Rights Education Awareness (CREAW), Kenya Redcross Society, FAWE Regional Secretariat, and FAWE Kenya Chapter. They work in unison to ensure that the programme implementation is taken care of and that everything runs smoothly. FAWE is the prime partner, supporting the other implementing partners with technical expertise in program implementation and financial management. Through the regional advocacy platforms, the programme has ensured that the same issues that affect girls are addressed in other countries and favourable policies are influenced.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Objectives of the Imarisha Msichana Programme<\/strong><\/p>

To collaborate with the duty bearers and stakeholders in generating credible and acceptable data for more structured and intentional interventions cases of teenage pregnancy in Kenya<\/p>

Training\/ Sensitization sessions for girls, young women, boys, young men, educators, duty bearers, and the local community on sexuality and the prevention of teenage pregnancy.<\/p>

Strengthen media engagement for accurate and wide<\/p>

To engage boys and young men in prevention programs and make them champions of girls’ rights<\/p>

Impact<\/p>

Imarisha Msichana led to the launch of the Situational analysis survey and report on teen mothers in 20 Counties in Kenya. The report was launched in October 2024 together with 218 development partners and government Ministries of Education, Gender Children, and Social Services.
