Despite progress in access to education, African girls—particularly those from marginalised, rural, fragile, and crisis-affected contexts—continue to face persistent barriers to retention, completion, and learning outcomes. These challenges are compounded by chronic underfinancing of education, weak application of gender-transformative budgeting, limited youth participation in decision-making, and unequal access to technology and innovation. Anchored in SDGs 4 and 5, the Continental Education Strategy for Africa (CESA) 2026–2035, Agenda 2063, and the AU Decade of Education, the conference positions sustainable financing, youth leadership, innovation, and multi-sectoral partnerships as mutually reinforcing levers to accelerate progress for girls’ education across Africa. Building on FAWE’s more than three decades of leadership in advancing gender equality in education, the 4th Triennale Conference seeks to mobilize sustainable financing, innovation, partnerships, and youth leadership as mutually reinforcing levers to accelerate progress for girls’ education across Africa. FAWE invites researchers, policymakers, practitioners, civil society actors, development partners, private sector actors, youth leaders, and students to submit abstracts that contribute evidence, policy insights, and scalable solutions aligned with the conference theme and sub-themes.

2.    Conference Objectives

The conference aims to:

Mobilise political, financial, and institutional commitments to sustainably finance gender-transformative education systems.

Elevate youth voices and leadership in education financing, governance, and accountability.

Promote innovation, technology, and partnerships that enhance girls’ access, retention, completion, and learning outcomes.

Strengthen policy coherence, institutional capacity, and accountability mechanisms for effective education financing and results delivery.

3.    Conference Sub-Themes and Track

Abstracts are invited under the following sub-themes and indicative tracks:

Sub-Theme 1: Sustainable Financing for Gender-Transformative Education

Policy and budget commitments for girls’ education

Gender-transformative budgeting and domestic resource mobilization

Innovative and blended financing mechanisms

Financing accountability, expenditure tracking, and impact measurement

Sub-Theme 2: Youth Voices and Leadership in Education Financing and Policy

Youth participation in education planning, budgeting, and oversight

Leadership development, mentorship, and intergenerational dialogue

Youth-led advocacy, monitoring, and accountability initiatives

Sub-Theme 3: Harnessing Technology and Digital Innovation for Girls’ Education

Financing inclusive and gender-transformative EdTech solutions

Closing the gender digital divide and advancing girls’ STEM education

Data, innovation ecosystems, and evidence-informed policymaking

Sub-Theme 4: Gender-Transformative Partnerships, Financing, and Accountability

Multi-sectoral and private sector partnerships for scale

Policy coherence and institutional capacity strengthening

Governance, transparency, and shared accountability for results

4.    Types of contributions

FAWE welcomes abstracts for the following presentation formats:

Oral Paper Presentations (research-based or practice-oriented)

Panel or Symposium Sessions

Poster Presentations

Case Studies and Good Practice Showcases / Workshop

Youth-Led Sessions and Innovation Pitches

5.    Abstract Submission Guidelines

Abstracts should:

Be 300 – 400 words in length; Font: Calibri 11

Clearly state the background, objectives, methodology/approach, key findings or insights, and implications for policy and practice;

Include the title, author(s), institutional affiliation(s), contact email, selected sub-theme, and 3–5 keywords;

Indicate the preferred presentation format;

Demonstrate clear relevance to the conference theme and objectives.

For good practice showcases, authors should highlight innovation, results/impact, costs, key lessons, and scalability.

All submissions will undergo peer review by the FAWE Conference Scientific Review Committee.

6.    Important Timelines

Abstract Submission Deadline: March 2, 2026

Notification of Acceptance: April 15, 2026

Submission of full papers and confirmation of Participation: May 29, 2026

7.    Conference Outcomes

The conference is expected to produce:

Evidence-informed policy and financing recommendations aligned with continental and global frameworks

Concrete political and financial commitments for girls’ education

Strengthened multi-sectoral partnerships and an advocacy roadmap for FAWE;

Youth-led action plans and accountability commitments;

A Joint Communiqué and Call to Action on accelerating gender-transformative education in Africa

8.    Submission and Contact Information

Details on the abstract submission portal, conference registration, and registration fees will be communicated in due course.
