After eleven years of dedication and contribution to girls’ education in the continent with more than five of these at the helm, Ms. Hendrina Chalwe Doroba transitioned from FAWE Africa as Regional Secretariat’s Executive Director, effective end of September 2018. The news of her departure was announced by Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Chairperson of the FAWE Africa Board.

In a statement to the FAWE National Chapters and partners of FAWE, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang announced the appointment of Mrs. Martha Muhwezi as the Executive Director in the interim until the FAWE Africa Board concludes the recruitment of a new Executive Director.

“Mrs. Muhwezi is currently FAWE Regional Secretariat’s Senior Programme Coordinating Officer and she has been working closely with Hendrina over the past six years and FAWE is confident that Mrs. Muhwezi will take lead of the Secretariat very well during this transition period,” said the Chairperson.

Prior to joining FAWE, Hendrina worked with Irish Embassy (Zambia) as Education Manager, and Oxfam GB Zambia as National Coordinator, Commonwealth Education Fund Project, supporting and strengthening the capacities of 12 local NGOs. She also taught Secondary School Mathematics and Geography and developed and coordinated in–service training programmes for mathematics teachers in Zambia for over 20 years.

Hendrina is a graduate and member of the Global Women Leadership Network (GWLN) and Synergos Senior Fellow. She joins the African Development Bank as a Division Manager-Education and Skills Development.
