Research states that nearly 1 in 3 women have been abused in their lifetime. These staggering statistic paints a grim picture of how we perceive, hold and value women in the society the world over.

Calling GBV by Name

In this year’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, FAWE joins the world in marking these important days where we have an opportunity to pause and reflect on the situation at hand, appreciate efforts made so far and deliberate on the urgent next steps. GBV is not entirely inevitable but it can and must be prevented. A good starting point is believing survivors, adopting inclusive approaches to tackling the root causes such as harmful social norms and empowering women and girls.

Keeping them safe

FAWE is running a campaign dubbed ‘Keep Them Safe on the entire 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence from 25th November to 10th December 2024. Through the campaign, we are engaging our network and stakeholders to create safe environments especially during this time when girls and young women are at home on school break.

The campaign aligns with FAWE’s mission to ensure education and protection for girls and young women across Africa. It seeks to mobilize FAWE chapters, communities, stakeholders, and partners to promote safety and advocate for child protection at both local and regional levels.

The main objectives of the campaign are:

  1. Raise awareness about GBV and SRH risks during the holiday season.
  2. Engage communities and stakeholders in child protection efforts.
  3. Encourage FAWE chapters to implement sensitization activities at the local level.
  4. Drive online conversations to promote safety and reporting mechanisms.
