Hawa Semega, 26 years, Mali
Today, I am a woman who knows what she wants and where she is heading.
I used to be very shy; I did not talk much, and would accept all kinds of treatment from my schoolmates. This affected my grades because even in class I could not say much.
When I joined the FAWE club, it completely changed my attitude and my life. Within a few weeks I was a different person. At the club, I learnt to speak out, to defend myself, and to be ambitious. I started defending myself from provocation, participated in class discussions, and even made friends.
I became a leader in our club and represented the club at the fifteenth anniversary of FAWE in Nairobi in 2008. That was a great experience for me; I was able to speak in front of many people.
Today, I am a woman who knows what she wants and where she is heading. I studied science and child education at the University of Bamako in Mali and now work as a journalist. I would like to help street children in my country, because so many of them beg in our streets to survive.
