Strengthening girls’ and women’s education in Africa – a FAWE research initiative
A significant number of African girls do not succeed in their studies at primary, secondary and higher education. Many fail, are dismissed or drop out for various reasons. Others complete education without acquiring the skills or knowledge required to lead autonomous and productive lives.
In Ethiopia, affirmative action at university level has not necessarily ensured equity within institutions. Women still suffer from problems such as sexual harassment, while many beneficiaries of affirmative action do not complete their studies due to their weak academic background and other problems.
