Christiana Thorpe is 2008 African of the Year runner up

Dr Christiana Thorpe of Sierra Leone was nominated as second runner up in the 2008 African of Year award organised by Nigeria’s Daily Trust newspaper.

Dr Thorpe, Chief Electoral Commissioner of Sierra Leone and Founding Chairperson of FAWE Sierra Leone, was honoured for her work in conducting free, fair and transparent elections in Sierra Leone.

She is former Deputy Minister of Education of Sierra Leone and is also the founder of an NGO for girls affected by war.

The award ceremony was hosted in Abuja, Nigeria, on 13 January 2009.
