ADEA/FAWE Challenge: Advancing Girls’ Secondary Education towards SDG 4 and 5 on Access, Retention and Performance in School

The Association for the Development of Education in Africa’s Working Group on Education Management and Policy Support (ADEA WGEMPS) and the Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) are searching for ideas and scalable innovative programmes/projects/ activities that can/have successfully advanced girls’ in secondary education in Africa.

The initiative dubbed ‘Open Challenge’ will run from 25th October to 25th December 2016. To apply participants need to visit (http://www.adeanet.org/openchallenge). Submissions stand a chance to win a USD$1,000 cash prize.

The ADEA-FAWE open challenge seeks to provide a platform for identifying possible successful models in the acceleration of girls’ education at secondary school level as well as programmes or projects that can be replicated or scaled up to provide girls with access to quality education across the continent.

This initiative is a follow up to the ADEA/FAWE’s recently executed Most Significant Change Stories competition, and is in tandem with ADEA’s contribution to facilitating the transformation of education and training to drive Africa’s accelerated and sustainable development, and FAWE’s mission of promoting gender equity and equality in education in Africa.

This initiative is in line with the aspirations of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) no. 4 and 5 of the 2030 Agenda, which are respectively “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all” and “Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls”.
