President of Burkina Faso awards FAWE Chevalier de l’Ordre National

Marie Lydia Toto Raharimalala receives the Chevalier de l’Ordre National from His Excellency Blaise Compaore, President of the Republic of Burkina FasoHis Excellency Blaise Compaore, President of the Republic of Burkina Faso, has presented FAWE with the prestigious Chevalier de l’Ordre National (Knight of the National Order) in recognition of the organisation’s work in promoting gender equality in education in Africa.

President Compaore presented the medal to FAWE Vice Chairperson Hon. Marie Lydia Toto Raharimalala at a reception hosted at the presidential palace in the Burkinabe capital Ouagadougou on 13 February 2012.

FAWE Chairperson Hon. Aicha Bah Diallo said, ‘This is the recognition of the 20 years of work in gender equality and lifelong education for all. We are very proud and honoured to receive such a medal from a country. The awards we have received up to now have been from international bodies. This one is from Africa, from a country and awarded by a president.’

FAWE has a long relationship with the authorities of Burkina Faso. Hon. Alice Tiendrebeogo, the former Minister of Education of Burkina Faso, is one of the founding members of FAWE.
