FAWE signs an MoU with GECSI to enhance its STEM Education program

//FAWE signs an MoU with GECSI to enhance its STEM Education program

For over 10 years FAWE has been dedicated to ensuring that girls not only receive education but also venture into the field that for a long time has been referred to “men’s field”. FAWE still continues to work towards increasing and sustaining access, interest, participation and performance of girls in SMT subjects at all levels

On June 9th 2016 the Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) and Global e‐Schools and Communities Initiative (GESCI)   signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire during the 2nd African Ministerial Forum on the Integration of ICT in Education and Training. The memorandum was signed by FAWE’S Executive Director Mrs. Hendrina Doroba and GESCI’s Chief Executive Officer, Jerome Morrissey. The three year partnership seeks to improve education and training of girls and women and to develop the untapped capacity of women to contribute to Africa’s social and economic transformation.
The MoU would also capitalize on the strengths of FAWE and GESCI to promote African women policy makers’ leadership skills with the view of achieving the objectives of their programs and advancing Inclusive knowledge societies. GESCI and FAWE have therefore agreed to jointly develop a leadership capacity building program targeting African women policy and decision makers to influence Education, science, and technology policies and strategies to increase girls’ and women’s representation in STEM education.

The two parties will also seek to incorporate ICT to increase girls’ representation in STEM, which is also one of FAWE’s interventions

With the signing of this MOU, FAWE and GESCI would jointly identify public and private partnerships and mobilize resources to support joint initiatives to enhance STEM education. The two parties  will work together to increase the reach of the AUC–‐GESCI’s ALICT programme as well as GESCI’s African Digital School Initiative (ADSI) programme, which is built on a model to improve STEM teaching and learning in secondary schools. Click here to see press release:
